En la práctica, son frecuentes las situaciones en las que se rebasan los límites idóneos de conservación de los medicamentos termolábiles (2º- 8º C), comprometiéndose su estabilidad y validez dependiendo de las características del medicamento, del tiempo y la temperatura en que se ha producido la rotura de la cadena de frío:
-Desconexiones y/o roturas de frigoríficos en las unidades de enfermería.
-Roturas de la cadena de frío en la distribución de medicamentos desde los servicios de farmacia hasta las unidades clínicas
-En las unidades de dispensación a pacientes externos; estos medicamentos pueden quedar fuera de la temperatura ideal de conservación, bien en el trayecto a sus domicilios o una vez en los mismos.
-Averías en los sistemas de alarma y registro de las cámaras frigoríficas de los servicios de farmacia, sobre todo si sucede durante las noches o fines de semana.
Gracias al avance de las nuevas tecnologías aplicadas al ámbito de la Farmacia Hospitalaria, hoy día disponemos de herramientas que permiten una estrecha vigilancia y trazabilidad de la temperatura que garantice la calidad de los fármacos custodiados. Estos sistemas, aunque más costosos que los sistemas tradicionales de control de la temperatura, nos proporcionan una gran seguridad y fiabilidad en la conservación de los medicamentos termolábiles.
